Aggies Continue to Dominate at Art Adamson Invitational

Swimming is perfect and awesome.

The Texas A&M women continued their domination at the Art Adamson Invitational on Friday.

With one day remaining, the Aggies have 968.5 points, well ahead of second-place LSU (477). Boise State (379.5) is third, followed by Arizona State (268), SMU (233), TCU (122) and Incarnate Word (30).

In the men's event, LSU (651) is clinging to a narrow lead over the Aggies (645.5) and Arizona State (620.5), followed by TCU (263), Incarnate Word (152) and SMU (133).

Texas A&M's Bethany Galat won the 400 IM (4:04.36), leading a 1-2-3 finish for the Aggies with Sydney Pickrem (4:06.5) and Monika Gonzalez (4:11.81).

Sarah Gibson continued to dominate, winning the 100 butterfly in an automatic NCAA qualifying time of 51.37, well ahead of Boise State's Brittany Aoyama (52.04). Gibson then won the 200 freestyle (1:44.37) — the next event — to edge teammate Claire Rasmus (1:44.89).

Beryl Gastaldello, Jorie Caneta, Gibson and Raena Eldridge won the 200 medley relay (1:37.28) in an NCAA provisional cut.

Caneta won the 100 breaststroke (59.38), going 1-2 with Franko Jonker (59.89). Gastaldello (52.35) and Laura Norman (53.53) went 1-2 in the 100 backstroke.

Pickrem, Rasmus, Katie Portz and Gibson won the 800 freestyle relay (7:06.54).

The Aggies opened the men's night with Brock Bonetti, Mauro Castillo, Turker Ayar and Corey Bolleter winning the 200 medley relay (1:25.13), edging Arizona State's Richard Bohus, Christian Lorenz, Andrew Porter and Tadas Duskinas (1:25.58).

Jose Martinez won the 400 IM (3:51.23) for the Aggies. Castillo won the 100 breaststroke (53.22), just two hundredths ahead of Lorenz.

Arizona State's Cameron Craig won the 200 freestyle (1:34.57).

Craig, Bohus, Thomaz Martins and Barkley Perry capped the day with an 800 free relay win (6:24.45), finishing over six seconds faster than LSU.

LSU's Logan Rysemus won the 100 butterfly (45.98) ahead of Porter (46.42) and the 100 backstroke (45.89). Bohus set the Sun Devils' second school record of the meet, finishing the 100 yard back in 46.00, .11 faster than his own school record.
